Ascension to a Garden Stroll

Five years after completing Upgrade’s original San Francisco headquarters, Blitz was invited back to extend the experience to another floor.

The design centers around a welcoming garden and interconnecting staircase that invite a return to the office and punctuate the three-story journey that defines the headquarters.  This third level is a relaxing foil to the buzz of the reception and all-hands floors below.  A calming garden, it provides space for a solitary coffee, quiet conversation, and private collaboration surrounded by natural hues and landscaping. Design motifs established by the original headquarters are layered with new ideas and amenities, providing a more varied and connected experience.

Abundant landscaping, refined branding, custom murals, and surprising transparency guide users through the floor in a compassionate way.  By multiplying the variety of the headquarters, space is created for a growing diversity of employees and business objectives.

A Sense of Place

Looking at the three floors holistically created a natural sequence as one ascends from Level  22 to 24.

With each floor having a specific destination, the ascension concept allows for more cross-floor circulation and spontaneous interaction between departments. Abundant landscaping paired with a clarity of wayfinding and transparency to create direct paths through the floor allows for a truly compassionate space, inviting current and new employees to come back to the office. Custom murals reflecting the nature theme round out the retreat ambiance of the space.

“Following the success of our combined efforts on our original San Francisco Headquarters, we were delighted to invite Blitz back to extend our footprint to another floor. We were impressed by their ability to reinvent the concept of our original home while still maintaining continuity with it. The garden is a timely and welcome addition to the host of amenities offered by our space making it an even more attractive destination for our employees and partners.”
